The Honor 8C has finally hit the Indian market, but this time around it’s quite different. Gone are the cheap plastics that used to make up most of its body and in comes a metal body with plastic trims. But is the new design worth its price? Read on to find out what we discuss about it.

Most people who live in cities like Delhi or Mumbai will know how difficult it is to think past ambient noise, let alone concentrate on reading text messages or browsing online when they’re indoors. The Honor 8C is a good phone that can withstand the rigors of Delhi’s summers and survive being carried around in the pocket all day with no protection.

Overall, the Honor 8C looks and feels like a really well-constructed, solid phone. It’s one of those phones that you can whip out of your pocket without feeling embarrassed. But it doesn’t look premium or feel premium either. Why is Honor 8C a good phone?

  1. The Honor 8C has an all-metal build with plastic stripes at the top and bottom ends, which doesn’t feel bad at all to hold.

  1. The phone is made out of a single piece of metal that has been sandblasted to give it a textured finish. The front is scratch resistant and the rear is removable, so the phone can be taken off and put back on again with ease.

  1. The power and volume buttons are raised, which makes it easy to differentiate between the two while holding the device. The dual speakers have a nice design to them and they deliver decent sound output in calls and media. Sadly, in music playback there’s no bass delivered through them, but at least they deliver high volumes quite adequately.

  1. The phone’s body is chunky and while it isn’t angular, it’s definitely not one of the thinnest around. But this can be forgiven given that the speakers and dual camera setup are on the back, so they’re bound to be a bit thick. The Honor 8C also has a little bulge on the back that houses another 13MP camera and LED flash.

  1. The fingerprint scanner is on the front underneath the Honor 8C display, which makes accessing it very smooth, especially when holding the phone in one hand. The physical home button below it is quite responsive and easy to find by touch. It can also be used for activating Google Assistant easily by pressing and holding for 3 seconds. The overall Honor 8C display is impeccable!

  1. The Honor 8C’s battery has been moved away from the top of the phone, which means it is no longer covered by a non-removable back panel. This is a bit of a bummer, but it does allow for a nice design where the entire battery isn’t hidden inside the phone.

  1. The Honor 8C’s iris scanner is an excellent addition to any smartphone nowadays. It takes only 0.3 seconds to unlock, which is really quick and very convenient. However, you must hold your phone at eye level while doing this to make sure your eyes are in focus and you’re not missing any details on the Honor 8C display while using it as an unlock mechanism.

  1. The dual rear camera module is pretty good too. It has 13MP and 2MP cameras, both of which have the typical Honor monochrome and color sensor configuration. The camera does an excellent job in low light conditions, but struggles a bit in bright sunlight. This is more than made up for by using the dedicated monochrome sensor to deliver high-quality black and white photos.

Conclusion

The Honor 8C is a very attractive phone and feels like a solid piece of premium metal. The metal body also comes with a small IP54 rating, which means that it can be splashed by water from any angle and will still be able to survive. The build quality has been refined over the years, and the Honor 8C is proof that it’s now possible to get both good looks and durability out of one device.

However, the Honor 8C does compete with other phones in its price range that offer dual rear cameras as well as larger memories. It’s a good phone overall and we won’t hesitate in recommending it if you’re on a tighter budget. Did we miss anything? Let us know in the comment section!
