1. Rohit Sharma [Win Percentage: 60.16%]

Serving as the captain of the Mumbai Indians for 8 years, Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the best captains within the league. Under his captaincy, MI won 5 IPL titles, and he currently has a win percentage of 60.16%. Sharma has played 207 matches, scored 5480 runs, and has a batting average of 130.50 in his entire IPL career. He captained 123 games, out of which he won 72 of them and lost 47 and 4 of the matches were a tie. 

2. Steve Smith [59.52%]

Australian cricketer Steve Smith served as the captain for three different franchises within the IPL: Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiants, and Rajasthan Royals. He had proved his leadership skills when he served as the captain for the RPS in 2017. Smith has captained 43 games, out of which he lost 17 of them and won 25. Only one match was a tie. On the other hand, Steve Smith served as a captain in International Cricket, where he performed brilliantly as well. 

3. MS Dhoni [ Win Percentage: 59.27%]

Known as “Captain Cool,” MSD happens to be one of the best captains in the IPL. He has served as the captain of Chennai Super Kings since 2008 and captained the RPS as well. CSK has one of the highest winning percentages of IPL teams within the league. But as a captain, MS Dhoni has a win percentage of 59.27%. Apart from that, he has been the only player who has been captaining the same side since the starting of the IPL. Under his captaincy, he helped CSK obtain three IPL titles and has captained 195 matches. He also won 111 games and lost 79 of them, and one match had no result. 

4. Sachin Tendulkar [ Win Percentage: 58.82%]

Even though he has retired from all formats of the sport, he once served as the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Tendulkar led MI brilliantly into the finals of the 2010IPL season but was defeated by the Chennai Super Kings. Sachin Tendulkar has captained 51 matches, out of which he won 30 matches and lost 21 of them. He has a win percentage of 58.82%. Rohit Sharma replaced him as the captain in 2013.

5. Cameron White [58.33%]

Former Australian cricketer, Cameron White, served as the captain of Deccan Chargers and the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He took over the captaincy from Kumar Sangakkara mid-season during the 2012 IPL. In the next IPL season, he captained SRH and won 7 out of the 12 matches he captained and lost 5. As a captain, Cameron White has a winning percentage of 58.33% in the IPL. 

6. Gautam Gambhir [Win Percentage: 55.42%]

Gautam Gambhir was the captain of the Delhi Daredevils [now Delhi Capitals] and the Kolkata Knight Riders. The former opener is the two-time IPL winning captain as he helped KKR win the 2012 and 2014 IPL seasons. As a captain, he has played 129 matches and won 60 of them. He also lost 64 matches, 3 of the matches were a tie, and 4 of the games had no result. Gambhir has a winning percentage of 55.42%.
