The universe is in a constant state of change, or so the scientists say, and ever since the arrival of Covid-19, we have seen multiple lockdowns and social distancing across the world in a bid to halt the spread of the Coronavirus. It is incredibly difficult to stop a contagious virus when you have international air travel and it didn’t take long for the virus to be found in places like the UK and northern Europe, which had a negative impact on many business sectors.
There are, however, a few exceptions and here are just a few of the industries that have flourished since the arrival of the pandemic.
- E-Commerce – As you would expect, consumers switched to online shopping, which has now become the preferred way to source products; many traditional retailers were forced to close due to multiple lockdowns, while some made the move to selling online in order to survive. You can even order your weekly groceries online and when you have everything on your shopping list in your cart, head to the virtual checkout and a secure online payment sees your stuff packaged and delivered to your door. Many UK citizens now make a good living running an e-commerce business; all you need is a good product line, a professional-looking store and some digital marketing and you are good to go.
- Telehealth – This is a new sector that was just starting to be used when the pandemic arrived and using VoIP technology, doctors can deliver their services via a video consultation. Of course, there are times when the medical professional needs to physically examine a patient, but in the majority of cases, a Zoom video call is adequate to make an accurate diagnosis and this keeps both doctor and patient safe. Hospitals have been stretched to their limits and with white glove logistics providers such as Rhenus High Tech, medical logistics was not really affected by the pandemic.
- Logistics – Thanks to millions of online shoppers, the logistics industry has grown significantly, which is hardly surprising when you consider the many benefits of online shopping and large and small logistics providers deliver the high volume of products ordered online. Traditional retail has been second hardest hit, behind tourism, with many stores simply closing down for good, while others pulled down their shutters for the foreseeable future. - Health & Hygiene (PPE) – Any business connected to PPE would be struggling to keep up with constant demand, as masks, gloves and hand sanitiser are being used everywhere. In hindsight, it would have been a wise move to buy shares in a PPE manufacturer in 2018 and despite the huge demand, this sector has managed to supply the world with essential PPE and will continue to do so as long as it takes.
We don’t know whether things will ever return to normal and that could mean some serious changes to the way we live our lives and businesses that have survived the pandemic will once again be allowed to open their doors for business.
